Govt Hikes LPG Prices to All-Time High

The government has elevated the prices of liquid petroleum gas to an all-time high.

According to a notification by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, the prices of LPG increased by Rs. 29 per kg, Rs. 344 per domestic cylinder, and Rs. 1322 per commercial cylinder. LPG will now be available to the poor at Rs. 204 per kg instead of Rs. 175 per kg, a domestic cylinder will be available for Rs. 2404 instead of Rs. 2060, and a commercial cylinder will cost Rs. 9,248 instead of Rs. 7,926.

LPG will be sold at Rs. 225 kg, a domestic cylinder will cost Rs. 2655, and a commercial cylinder will cost Rs. 10,215 in the hilly areas; and it will be sold at Rs. 250 per kg, Rs. 2,950 for a domestic cylinder, and Rs. 11,350 for a commercial cylinder in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The delivery on the promises of relief for poor people failed miserably while liquid petroleum gas (LPG) slipped out of their range as well. The astonishing increase in LPG Consumer Prices has been notified by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.

LPG is now out of the range of poor people in the Northern Areas and several other areas of the country where there is a deprivation of natural gas. The dream of a Green Pakistan is far from being achieved due to this critical issue because people will be bound to cut down trees for wood when LPG will be unavailable at economic rates.

The local production of LPG was reduced by thousands of metric tons per month due to the closure of Asia’s biggest LPG production facility, the Jam Shoro Joint Venture.

The government has lost billions in revenue, and poor people have been paying the price of the closure of the Jam Shoro Joint Venture for the last 18 months. The government has been urged to resume its operations on a priority basis and to issue a consumer-friendly LPG policy instead of the faulty LPG Policy 2021 so that poor people may have some relief from the inflation.
