1389 Seats Remained Vacant in Medical and Dental Colleges During 2022

About 1389 seats remained vacant in the medical and dental colleges of both public and private sectors and could not be filled for the year 2021-22.

Sources in the Health Ministry told Propakistani that the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) had concluded national admission on 10 March 2022 including the period granted under the Vacant Seat Policy of the Commission. Accordingly, the total vacant seats as of 10th March 2022 are 1389 (6.68 percent) of the total allocated seats.

While sharing the breakup of vacant seats of MBBS with Propakistani, the sources told that 2.58 percent (218 out of 8465) seats remained vacant in medical colleges of the public sector while 2.28 percent (197 out of a total 8652) seats could not fill in medical colleges of the private sector during the session.

About dental colleges, sources told that 10.93 percent or 133 seats out of a total of 1217 allocated seats remained vacant in public colleges while 34.12 percent or 841 seats, out of a total of 2465 seats in private dental colleges also remain vacant.

The highest number of seats remained vacant in the 12 private dental and medical colleges of Sindh, the sources said.

At least 518 seats out of 540 seats allocated to 8 different private Dental Colleges of Sind remained vacant.

According to the details, 79 out of 80 seats are vacant in Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine College, 71 out of 75 seats are vacant in Baqai Dental College, 76 out of 80 are vacant in Bhittai Dental and Medical College, 46 out of 50 are vacant in Dental College Sir Syed College for Girls, 72 out of 75 seats are vacant in Dental Section Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry and 44 out of 50 vacant in Isra Dental College.

The data shows that there were two colleges which could not give single admission during the seats. 80 out of 80 seats remained vacant in the Fatima Jinnah Dental College and 50 out of 50 seats are vacant in the Muhammad Dental College during the session.

Sources further said that 148 out of 450 seats remained vacant in four private medical colleges of Sindh during the session.

There are 29 out of 100 seats vacant in Al-Tibri Medical College, 67 out of 150 seats are vacant in the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences-Isra University, 28 out of 100 seats are vacant in Muhammad Medical College and 24 out of 100 seats remained vacant in Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls, a source informed.
