In a major decision, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the closure of all educational institutions every Saturday until the end of January 2024.
The directive was issued during the hearing of the case pertaining to the hazardous level of smog in the province, particularly Lahore.
In its written order, Justice Shahid Karim of LHC directed the relevant officials to issue a notification in this regard.
Once the notification is issued, students of the universities, colleges and schools will get an extra off day.
Furthermore, the order also highlighted Punjab government’s efforts in facilitating a two-day-a-week work-from-home arrangement.
The provincial government’s order to shut down gyms has also been suspended as it was issued under coronavirus-related provisions, which is no longer applicable.
The environment department has been directed to initiate departmental action against its officers who failed to control smog.
Earlier, the provincial government made wearing face masks mandatory for a week in selected districts of the province. The order will remain in effect from November 20 until November 26.
