The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will provide free two-kilowatt solar panels to poor families, a private news channel reported on Thursday.
Provincial Adviser for Finance Muzammil Aslam, in an interview with foreign media, announced that the province plans to distribute 100,000 solar systems to these families.
Aslam stated that the package will include electric wires, inverter fans, and solar panels. He also mentioned that KP has installed over 90 power plants, generating electricity costing Rs. 6-7 per unit.
In contrast, WAPDA charges 27 rupees per unit for electricity supply. To further support this initiative, KP will establish its electricity transmission line.
Earlier, the provincial government of Punjab also approved a proposal to provide solar panels to 4.5 million consumers. As part of the initiative, solar panels will be given to households consuming between 50 to 500 units of electricity, with the government bearing 90 percent of the cost and the consumer paying the remaining 10pc.
