Govt Orders Strict Monitoring of Social Media Platforms

The federal government has directed strict monitoring of social media to curb hateful and religiously inflammatory content. A letter has been issued to the chief secretaries and IGs of police of all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, instructing them to monitor social media platforms strictly.

The Ministry of Interior’s letter states that there has been an increase in the circulation of hateful content and religiously inflammatory incidents on social media. This has led to a rise in sectarian divisions and inflammatory incidents, posing a significant threat to national security. The government has expressed concern that the country cannot afford any sectarian unrest.

The government has instructed authorities to impose strict restrictions on entry into districts and limit speeches to specific areas during the holy month of Muharram. This move aims to prevent any sectarian violence. Additionally, cybersecurity will be strictly monitored to prevent the circulation of hateful and inflammatory content on social media.

The government’s directive comes at a time when the country is already dealing with several security challenges. The spread of hateful content on social media has been a growing concern, and the government has finally taken steps to address it. The effectiveness of this directive remains to be seen, but it is a crucial step towards creating a more secure and harmonious society.
