The Sindh Transport Department has announced the introduction of three new routes for the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi, alongside an extension of an existing route to improve public transport in the city. These changes will commence operations starting July 22, 2024.
Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed that Route 13, running from Hawks bay to Tower, will start on July 22. On July 23, Route 12, which previously began at Khokhrapar, will be extended to start from Memon Goth, continuing to Tower.
Additionally, on July 24, an electric bus route (EV4) will commence from Kathore to Numaish Chowrangi. Following this, on July 25, Route 8, from Yousuf Goth to Tower, will also begin operations.
The Minister emphasized that these new routes aim to provide affordable and convenient transportation services to Karachi’s citizens. Future plans include further expansions and the introduction of more buses to meet the city’s transportation needs.
Last month, additional routes were announced to address the transport challenges faced by Karachi’s residents. A meeting involving elected MPAs, the deputy mayor, and other officials decided to introduce new routes in various districts, including Malir, Kemari, Lyari, and district West. One of these new routes will run from Numaish to Hawkes Bay, further expanding the reach of the Peoples Bus Service.
Sharjeel Inam Memon reiterated that the Sindh government remains dedicated to improving public transport and ensuring that citizens have access to affordable and efficient travel options across Karachi.
