During a crackdown in Lahore, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized and discarded 2,480 kilograms of unsanitary meat from sick and malnourished birds.
PFA inspected 23 food establishments and 63 chicken delivery vehicles carrying 85,000 kilograms of meat. Furthermore, nine food business operators were fined Rs. 170,000 as part of the enforcement action.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that action was taken against poultry shops in Tollinton Market for keeping low-quality meat. He warned food business operators to adhere to the Punjab Pure Food Regulations or face strict penalties.
Following directives from the Punjab Chief Minister, the PFA is intensifying enforcement under the Food Act. Last month, the authority seized a vehicle loaded with 800 kilograms of dead chickens.
During the operation, three suspects were arrested and criminal charges were filed against them. The PFA spokesperson reported that they acted on a tip-off about a vehicle suspected of carrying unsafe poultry.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be packed with dead chickens. Initial findings indicated these chickens were destined for various food outlets and markets in the city.
