As anticipation builds for Google’s Pixel 9 series launch on August 13th, leaked images of the unannounced Pixel 9 Pro XL have surfaced online. These leaked images, shared on the XDA forums, offer a glimpse into the phone’s internal specifications.
The leaked boot menu reveals a substantial 16 GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM, surpassing the 12 GB maximum previously seen in Pixel devices. However, the configuration is unusual as it pairs this high RAM capacity with only 256 GB of storage. Traditionally, manufacturers offer higher storage options, such as 1 TB, to complement larger RAM capacities.

The decision to pair 16 GB of RAM with only 256 GB of storage on the Pixel 9 Pro XL remains a mystery. However, Google may prioritize on-device AI capabilities, which demand significant memory resources. With a strong emphasis on AI in recent Pixel models, the additional RAM will likely contribute to smoother performance for these features.
Beyond the memory upgrade, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to feature Samsung’s latest Exynos 5400 baseband chip. This marks a departure from the Exynos 5300 used in the Pixel 8 series.

Samsung claims the Exynos 5400 supports the 3GPP Release 17 standard, delivering peak data transfer speeds of up to 14.79 Gbps. Moreover, rumors suggest the chip may enable satellite communication capabilities for the Pixel 9 lineup.
Google is reviving the “XL” branding with the Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking the first device in this category since the Pixel 4 XL in 2019. This upcoming smartphone is anticipated to feature a 6.7-inch OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a 1344 x 2992 resolution, all protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
On the rear, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to house a triple camera system comprising three 50MP sensors for the primary, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses. The telephoto lens is rumored to offer up to 5x optical zoom capabilities.
A 5050mAh battery will be included to keep the device powered, supporting 30W wired charging.
