Apple is reportedly ditching the iPhone Plus next year, replacing it with a super-slim model dubbed the iPhone 17 Slim. This new phone is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever, similar to Apple’s latest iPad Pro.
Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims the current iPhone Plus only accounts for a small 5 to 10% of iPhone sales. This low performance is likely why Apple is cutting it.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Slim will feature a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1260 x 2740 pixels. It will be powered by the A19 chip, a less powerful version compared to the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro models.
The phone will retain a similar Dynamic Island design as current iPhones and have a titanium alloy frame but with a lower titanium content than the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
A surprising downgrade is the single rear camera, a departure from the multi-camera trend. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests Apple will focus on the phone’s design rather than hardware specs.
iPhone 18’s New Camera
Even though the iPhone 18 lineup is over 2 years away from launch, we already have early reports of what to expect from it thanks to Ming-Chi Kuo. At the moment, Sony has the monopoly of supplying camera sensors to Apple, but Kuo claims that this will change with the iPhone 18.
According to the analyst, the iPhone 18 will switch to Samsung sensors, at least for the ultrawide camera. This sensor should be a 48 MP 1/2.6″ unit.

Samsung has reportedly formed a special team to meet Apple’s demands, and there’s speculation that a contract might already be in place. However, this is based on rumors and not confirmed information.
It’s uncertain how this change will affect the camera quality of the iPhone 18 compared to previous models. Given Apple’s reputation, it’s likely the new camera will perform as well or better than current Sony-made sensors, so there’s no need for concern.
