Windows Outage: CrowdStrike Offers $10 Uber Eats Card as Apology

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has sparked outrage after offering partners a paltry $10 Uber Eats gift card as compensation for a software update that crippled millions of Windows systems worldwide. The update caused widespread chaos, from flight delays and hospital disruptions to business losses.

The incident is estimated to have impacted a staggering 8.5 million Windows computers and could result in billions of dollars in insurance claims. Critics have slammed CrowdStrike’s inadequate apology, questioning the company’s response to the massive disruption it caused.

Here is what CrowdStrike said in an email sent to some of its partners:

And for that, we send our heartfelt thanks and apologies for the inconvenience. To express our gratitude, your next cup of coffee or late night snack is on us!

This email was accompanied by a $10 Uber Eats gift card, which was first reported by Tech Crunch. However, when folks over at Tech Crunch checked the voucher for this gift card, it said that the card “has been canceled by the issuing party and is no longer valid.”

A spokesperson from CrowdStrike, Kevin Benacci, has also confirmed to TechCrunch that the company has sent gift cards to its partners. Here is what he said:

We did send these to our teammates and partners who have been helping customers through this situation. Uber flagged it as fraud because of high usage rates.

It remains unclear whether CrowdStrike plans to provide any compensation for its customs.
