Punjab Introduces New Garbage Tax For All Properties

The Punjab government has given the green light to a new garbage tax that will apply to residential and commercial properties across the province.

Following approval from the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Finance and Development, a notification has been issued to implement the new garbage tax.

The notification specifies that the garbage tax applies to residential properties and businesses of all sizes, including those in both urban and rural areas throughout the province.

In addition to households and businesses, residents of kachi abadis will also be subject to this tax. In rural areas, residents of 5 marla houses will be required to pay Rs. 200 per month, while those in houses ranging from 10 marla to one kanal or larger will face a Rs. 400 monthly tax.

In rural areas, small businesses and shops will be taxed Rs. 300 per month, medium-sized businesses will incur a Rs. 700 monthly tax, and large enterprises, including factories, workshops, and petrol stations, will also be subject to a Rs. 700 garbage tax.

In urban areas, residents of 5 Marla houses will pay Rs. 300 per month, while those in 10 Marla houses will be taxed Rs. 500. For houses between 10 Marla and one kanal, the tax will be Rs. 2,000, and for larger houses, the monthly tax will be Rs. 5,000.

In urban areas, small commercial shops will be taxed Rs. 500 per month for garbage, medium-sized businesses will face a Rs. 1,000 tax, and factories, workshops, and large businesses will incur a Rs. 3,000 monthly charge.

    • @Imran Yaqoob money of this tax will be given to Waste management companies of Punjab. Cleanliness is our half religion and I fully support this government’s decision. When we live in Dubai then we happily pay Garbage tax then why not in Pakistan?.
      If this tax will lead to cleanliness then we are all for it.

  • I am not a fan of Pmln at all but I must say that this tax was necessary. I have travelled around the world and all developed nations get this tax. But when we are paying taxes then we want Punjab to as clean as Dubai or Europe.

  • DHA residents will pay this tax or not?. If DHA residents of Punjab are not paying this tax then we bloody civilians will not pay it as well.

  • This tax itself is garbage, given we already pay so many taxes. Where do all the taxes go?
