After an extended selection process marked by disagreements among decision-makers, Aitchison College has appointed Dr. S.M. Turab Hussain as its new principal.
Mr. Michael A. Thomson resigned in March due to an extended clash with the former Governor of Punjab, Baligh Ur Rehman, who was appointed by the PML-N.
Dr. Hussain was chosen for the role, but Governor Punjab’s office did not release the official notification due to political issues and significant lobbying within the Board of Governors of the college.
The official notification was finally issued late last night, according to an informed source. Dr. Hussain’s tenure at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) ends on July 31, and he will assume his role as Principal of Aitchison College starting August 1.
Dr. SM Turab Hussain is a well-regarded educationist with expertise in various fields such as migration theory, poverty, rural development, trade, and overall development. His recent work has delved into industrial policy, migration and remittances, trade opportunities with India, and Pakistan’s experiences in WTO dispute resolution.
