The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) announced on Wednesday that water levels in Punjab’s rivers, dams, and nullahs are increasing. It is pertinent to mention that more monsoon rains may impact most districts in the province within the next 24 hours.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, the River Indus at Tarbela and Kalabagh is experiencing low flood conditions. There is also a risk of medium to high floods in the River Jhelum at Mangla between August 1 and August 4.
The Authority has further warned of potential flooding in the River Chenab at Khanki, Qadirabad, and Marala. Earlier today, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted heavy monsoon rains across the country from August 1 to 6.
The Met Office announced that strong monsoon currents will begin to flow from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal into the northern regions on the night of July 31 and extend into central and southern areas starting August 2.
Farmers are urged to plan their activities based on the weather forecast. Meanwhile, travelers and tourists have been advised to exercise increased caution, adjust their plans according to weather conditions, and avoid potential hazards during the rainy period.
