Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shiza Fatima, spoke with journalists in Parliament. She said that there are no restrictions on social media in Pakistan despite the prolonged Twitter ban that has been in place for months.
She avoided commenting on the question regarding the firewall to control social media. The minister noted that:
Social media is operating well in Pakistan. The reason for the ban on Twitter is their exceptionally liberal policies.
She mentioned that discussions with Twitter are ongoing, but Facebook and TikTok remain the most used social platforms in Pakistan.
She also spoke briefly regarding the Prime Minister’s orders to downsize the government. The Ministry of IT and Telecom is not being abolished, it is only being downsized, clarified Shaza Fatima. “We will eliminate unnecessary organizations, and if needed, new ones will be established,” she concluded.

Twitter (X) is banned, Facebook and other social media sites are monitored and individual posts are banned. Any criticism against institutions and government is banned. People are being served FIA notices. And you are saying that there is no ban on social media? Do you think we are fools? or do you consider us illiterate and backward? Stop lying and start accepting your blunders.
