PTA Submits Proposals to Tackle Anti-Pakistan Social Media Campaigns

In a bid to tackle the ongoing social media campaigns against Pakistan’s national security, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has submitted its recommendations to the government.

The regulator has identified several challenges that need to be addressed to ensure a safer online environment for citizens and protect national security.

One of the major challenges highlighted by the PTA is the lack of international agreements on internet governance. This has created a vacuum that allows anti-Pakistan propaganda to spread unchecked on social media platforms. The PTA has also pointed out the spread of illegal content online, including hate speech and misinformation, as a significant threat to national security.

Another challenge identified by the PTA is the presence of anonymous social media users who spread harmful content without fear of retribution. The authority has also expressed concerns over unlicensed Over-the-Top (OTT) services that provide content without adhering to local regulations.

To address these challenges, the PTA has recommended developing a national consensus on social media management. This will involve adopting a joint strategy for social media governance, ensuring that all stakeholders are on the same page. The PTA has also suggested enhancing the capacity of courts to deliver swift verdicts in cybercrime cases, allowing for more efficient prosecution of online offenses.

Furthermore, the PTA recommends raising public awareness about responsible internet and social media usage. This will help prevent the spread of harmful content and encourage citizens to report suspicious activity online.

Finally, the PTA suggests improving the capacity of law enforcement agencies to effectively address online threats and protect national security.
