Water Reservoirs Still Not Fully Filled Despite Heavy Rainfalls

In a briefing on the current situation of water reservoirs, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director General Mahr Sahibzad Khan reported the following water levels:

  • Tarbela Dam: 1526.89 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1550.00 feet.
  • Mangla Dam: 1202.15 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1242.00 feet.
  • Rawal Dam: 1739.00 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1752.00 feet.
  • Simly Dam: 2277.5 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 2315.00 feet.
  • Khanpur Dam: 1942.4 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1982.00 feet.

Khan mentioned that considering the overall rainfall situation so far, the likelihood of floods is low. However, he noted that if the rain continues with the same intensity, a high flood situation could develop in the Chenab River.

He also mentioned that following the rain spell from August 1-6, another rain spell is expected from August 7-15, for which the PMD will issue an advisory. In the first two weeks of August, we are expected to see above-normal rainfall.
