Pakistan’s government plans to revise rules for issuing and renewing passports. The Interior Ministry has submitted a summary to the federal cabinet proposing these changes.
The amendments will allow citizens to obtain passports from any city nationwide. Furthermore, the new rules will enable passport fees for all categories to be paid at any branch of the National Bank.
According to Interior Ministry sources, following the cabinet’s approval, the updated passport regulations will streamline the process, allowing citizens to apply for passports similarly to how they obtain national identity cards.
In separate news, the Interior Ministry announced that a new regional passport office has opened in Islamabad.
Mustafa Jamal Qazi, DG of Passports, advised that Islamabad residents seeking a passport should visit the new facility at the I&T Center in Sector G10-4. He highlighted that the state-of-the-art building features modern facilities, including dedicated counters for women and senior citizens.
He added that the new passport office will eliminate the need for long queues, as passports will be processed through a digital system. He assured that additional staff will be on hand to address any issues promptly.
