China’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD is planning to build an EV plant in Karachi with local business group Mega Conglomerate Pvt., Bloomberg reported on Thursday.
The factory will be completed by mid-2026 near Port Qasim.
BYD will unveil three models to sell in the Pakistani market, including an SUV and a sedan, at its brand launch on Saturday.
BYD’s entry follows a growing trend of Chinese automakers entering Pakistan, a market traditionally dominated by Japanese brands like Toyota and Honda. The company aims to begin selling vehicles through showrooms in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad by the fourth quarter of this year.
BYD’s expansion into Pakistan is part of China’s plan to broaden its manufacturing footprint across the world. It recently opened a factory in Thailand and announced production plans for Hungary, Turkey, and Brazil.

Byd can win the market if they bring vehicles similar in size and price to alto , corolla , city and Tucson / Sportage
