Lahore High Court Justice Shakeel Ahmed reserved judgment on a petition challenging the nationwide internet disruption, stating, “This is a matter of public interest, and the court will issue appropriate orders.”
During the hearing, the federal government’s lawyer requested additional time to submit a detailed report on the internet disruption, citing the need to investigate the reasons behind the slow internet speed through the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The court responded, “This is a matter of public interest, and your level of seriousness is evident. You don’t even have proper information.”
The petition argues that the current internet disruption violates citizens’ fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and access to information. Justice Ahmed emphasized the public interest aspect, indicating a thorough examination of the issue.
