On Friday, Karachi witnessed the biggest robbery of the year, as thieves stole over Rs23.2 million from a citizen exiting a bank after withdrawing the substantial sum. A case of robbery has been filed at Mithadar Police Station following the incident, which took place near II Chundrigarh Road.
The case was filed following a complaint from Muhammad Bilal. The robbers, operating in broad daylight, pursued Bilal as he exited the bank and stole the money in the parking lot. The security guard who attempted to intervene was severely injured and subsequently hospitalized.
The Karachi Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the robbery. Officials revealed that the robbers escaped on a motorcycle, and efforts are ongoing to track them down.
A senior police officer stated, “We are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence to identify and apprehend the suspects.”
The police have called on the public to assist with the investigation by providing any relevant information. “We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has details about the suspects to come forward and report it to the nearest police station,” the officer said.
It should be noted that Karachi has witnessed a sharp increase in street crimes during the first seven months of this year. According to a recent report by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), the port reported over 44,000 criminal incidents, with more than 31,000 motorcycles stolen or snatched.
The report also revealed over 1,000 cars were stolen or snatched, and more than 11,000 mobile phones were forcibly taken from citizens.
