Mosquito nets valued at Rs 300 million have reportedly been stolen from a government warehouse in Quetta, according to ARY News. The nets, totaling 368,000 and donated by international donors, were intended for distribution across three districts in Balochistan.
Despite the theft, 1.8 million nets are still being distributed by an NGO in the region, according to health ministry sources.
The theft was uncovered by an NGO, prompting a visit by the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) team to Quetta to investigate the incident. An investigation is currently underway, sources confirmed.
Efforts to cover up the theft of mosquito nets have been reported, sources added. In a related incident, thousands of metric tons of wheat have disappeared from Sindh government warehouses.
A letter from the District Food Controller of Nowshero Feroze to the Secretary of Food highlights the loss of over 100,000 sacks, totaling 13,000 metric tons of wheat valued at 7 crores. A committee had been formed to investigate this case.
