The relaxed visa policy will apply to Iraqis under the age of 15 and over the age of 50, with the new rule set to take effect from September 1. This decision was made during the fourth session of the Türkiye-Iraq High-Level Security Mechanism.
This development follows extensive negotiations between the two nations, further solidified during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Baghdad earlier this year. The visa exemption aims to strengthen bilateral relations and simplify travel for specific groups of Iraqi citizens.
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, announced the decision at a press conference alongside Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein.
“We have decided to implement visa exemptions for Iraqi individuals under 15 and over 50, starting from September 1,” Fidan said, emphasizing the policy’s role in strengthening ties between the neighboring countries.
The new policy is expected to increase cross-border travel, with Türkiye anticipating more visits from Iraq for family reunions, business engagements, and enhanced people-to-people connections.
