Sindh Govt Announces Public Holiday Next Week

The Sindh government has officially declared a province-wide public holiday on August 20, which falls on a Tuesday, to commemorate the urs of the revered Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

This annual event honors the poet’s legacy and is observed with various cultural and spiritual activities across Sindh. The holiday provides an opportunity for people to pay tribute to Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s contributions to Sufi literature and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

As per an official notification from the Sindh government, all offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, corporations, and local councils under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government will remain closed on 14th Safar, corresponding to August 20.

However, essential services will not be affected by this notification and will continue to operate throughout the province. The urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, which begins annually on the 14th of Safar in the Islamic calendar, will span three days.

This year’s celebrations are expected to feature poetry marathons, literary conferences, and various other cultural activities, as reported.
