In a significant development, the Punjab government has announced an extensive electricity relief package for domestic consumers.
Over the next two months, the relief measures valued at Rs. 15 billion will benefit 37 million electricity users through Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
Starting in August, 1.925 million consumers will receive Rs. 8 billion worth of relief in electricity bills. This will be followed by an additional Rs. 7.2 billion in September for 1.75 million consumers.
LESCO plans to cut bills by Rs. 575 million in August and Rs. 520 million in September, impacting 57.75 million and 52 million units of electricity, respectively.
The relief targets households using between 201 and 500 units of electricity per month, affecting approximately 1.9 million LESCO customers. Notably, this assistance is exclusively for domestic consumers and will not extend to commercial, industrial, or tubewell users.
