PCB Set to Make Massive Upgrades in Key Venues Before ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking significant steps to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by upgrading floodlights according to international standards at key venues across the country.

Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, where the majority of the tournament’s matches will be held, are set to receive new state-of-the-art floodlights, ensuring top-notch visibility and an uninterrupted viewing experience for fans.

PCB plans to redistribute the current floodlights from the National Stadium in Karachi to Quetta, and they aim to follow the same process to redistribute the floodlights of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium to Rawalpindi.

This move reflects the board’s ambition to enhance facilities at smaller venues, including Quetta, Abbottabad, and Peshawar, making them capable of hosting high-level domestic and international matches under lights.

To facilitate this extensive upgrade, the PCB has already started reaching out to eligible suppliers to provide the necessary lighting equipment on a rental basis, with contracts expected to run from August 2024 to July 2025.

Additionally, the PCB is working on installing generators across multiple cities, ensuring a reliable power supply for the floodlights.

“The idea behind this process is to ensure smaller venues are also equipped with light towers for domestic cricket and major venues like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi where most of the international games and CT matches would be played get towers which ensure international standard and uninterrupted provision of light during matches.” a PCB source confirmed.

The apex cricket board has earmarked Rs12.80 billion for the overall upgrade of the three primary venues for the ICC Champions Trophy that Pakistan will host in March.
