Water Supply to Karachi Stopped Due to Power Breakdown

The water supply to Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, has been suspended from the Dhabeji pumping station due to a major power outage.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) stated that all pumps at the Dhabeji pumping station have ceased operation because of the power breakdown, resulting in a temporary halt in the water supply to the city.

The Dhabeji Pumping Station serves one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation, a service-oriented organization, is responsible for the production, transmission, and distribution of potable water to Karachi’s residents, as well as managing the city’s sewerage system to maintain a hygienic environment. The corporation also develops schemes to address service shortfalls and collects revenues to ensure economic sustainability.

Water is supplied to Karachi from a distant water source through a bulk conveyance system that includes a complex network of canals, conduits, siphons, multi-stage pumping, and filtration systems.
