A traffic advisory has been issued for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi considering a planned protest and a scheduled cricket match tomorrow. The Islamabad police have already implemented certain measures, including the closure of key routes, to ensure public safety and manage traffic flow effectively.
According to the latest updates, Express Chowk (near D-Chowk) and NADRA Chowk have been closed off by placing containers to obstruct traffic. There are also reports of container placements near the Marriot Hotel, indicating further potential road closures in the vicinity.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a public gathering (jalsa) at 4 PM tomorrow at Tarnol Chowk, Peshawar Road. Due to this event, there is a high likelihood of additional container placements around the area by late evening today, unless the gathering is called off.
The No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event has already been canceled, although all roads remain open now. However, containers have been observed along the sides of routes at 26 Number and Taxila, suggesting potential disruptions. Additionally, rallies departing from Peshawar after 12 PM are expected to cause heavy traffic on the Motorway and GT Road.
In other developments, a high-profile court hearing in the Supreme Court is scheduled for tomorrow, and rallies are expected to converge in the Red Zone area by 8 AM, further complicating traffic conditions.
Metro Bus service will be suspended between Saddar and Pak Secretariat stations in both cities, further worsening the expected traffic congestion.
While all other roads remain open, there will be temporary blockages due to cricket team movements until 3rd September 2024 due to the visiting Bangladesh team. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays and inconveniences.
