Bangladesh’s historic victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi and England defeating Sri Lanka in Manchester Bangladesh have led to notable shifts in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan declared at 448-6, with Mohammad Rizwan scoring an unbeaten 171. Bangladesh responded with a formidable 565 runs, led by Mushfiqur Rahim’s 191. On day five, Bangladesh’s bowlers took nine wickets in under two sessions, dismissing Pakistan for 146 and chasing down the 30-run target in just 6.3 overs.
England vs Sri Lanka
In the match between England and Sri Lanka, England dismissed Sri Lanka for 236 in their first innings, gaining a 122-run lead with Jamie Smith scoring his maiden Test century (111). Sri Lanka, at 95-4 in their third innings, managed to set a target of 205 for England, thanks to Kamindu Mendis (113) and Dinesh Chandimal (79). England successfully chased down the target with Joe Root remaining unbeaten on 62, securing a five-wicket victory.
These results have led to significant changes in the points table. England has climbed from sixth to fourth place, pushing Sri Lanka down to fifth. Despite the win, England’s chances of reaching the WTC final remain slim. Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan, their first-ever against this opponent, has reshaped the points table. They are now level with Sri Lanka on points percentage, at 40%, and have moved up to sixth, overtaking both Pakistan and South Africa. Meanwhile, Pakistan has slipped to second from the bottom and is now winless in their last nine home Test matches.
