PCB Chairman to Rely On AI Technology to Select New Players from Domestic Setup

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi voiced his concerns about the fragile state of Pakistan’s cricket talent pipeline, highlighting a significant lack of depth within the system.

Following Pakistan’s shocking Test defeat to Bangladesh, Naqvi stressed the urgent need for structural reforms, indicating that the current system does not provide adequate replacements for underperforming players.

In response to this crisis, the PCB Chairman introduced the Champions Cup, a new domestic tournament aimed at unearthing and nurturing future stars for the national team.

He likened the current scenario to performing surgery without the necessary tools, emphasizing that the selection committee faces challenges due to the absence of a robust player pool.

“The selection committee has no reliable pool of players to choose from, These 150 players that have been selected (for the champions cup), 80% of of it has been done by AI and 20% using Humans. Nobody can challenge that.” Naqvi said, reflecting on the limitations faced during team selection.

He asserted that the Champions Cup, supported by artificial intelligence in player selection, would provide a much-needed boost to domestic cricket, offering transparent records for future evaluations.

Naqvi defended the selection committee’s choices, noting that the captain and team management made tactical decisions during the Rawalpindi Test, which resulted in the exclusion of key players.

Pakistan prepares for the second Test against Bangladesh, scheduled from August 30 to September 3 in Rawalpindi, Naqvi remains hopeful that the Champions Cup will lay the foundation for a stronger, more competitive national team.
