PepsiCo Pakistan Cultivates Change: Supporting Women and Fostering Innovation in Agriculture

PepsiCo Pakistan is actively engaged in fostering positive change within Pakistan’s agricultural landscape. Its efforts extend beyond ushering in sustainable farming practices, encompassing supporting women farmers, the development of inclusive communities, and the promotion of economic growth.

A recent thought leadership event, “Seeds to Smiles,” served as a platform to showcase PepsiCo Pakistan’s multifaceted approach to agricultural development.

The event attracted a distinguished audience that included PepsiCo leadership figures such as Eugene Willemsen (CEO, PepsiCo Africa, Middle East & South Asia (AMESA) and International Beverages) and Mohammad Khosa (CEO, PepsiCo Pakistan). Industry experts, partner organizations, and farmers rounded out the list of notable attendees.

A central focus of the event was a discussion on PepsiCo Pakistan’s initiatives designed to support women farmers and build inclusive communities. One of the cornerstones of PepsiCo Pakistan’s social impact agenda is the She Feeds the World (SfTW) program, a global initiative that targets improved food security and nutrition for rural households.

In the Pakistani context, SfTW has reached over 170,000 community members. The program empowers women through training in sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, and leadership development.

Anila Begum, a partner smallholder farmer from Gilgit Baltistan shared her experience, highlighting the impact of the company’s interventions on her community. She emphasized the importance of equipping farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to the nation’s food security.

PepsiCo Pakistan’s commitment to gender equality extends beyond its programmatic efforts. It is also actively engaged in capacity building for farmers. 50,000 farming families across 35,000+ acres of land have been provided with training in modern agricultural practices, including the use of precision planters and impact recording devices.

Recognizing the critical importance of education and skills development, the company is taking steps to improve soil health and conserve water. By implementing practices such as green manuring and crop rotation, it is nurturing the land and enhancing its productivity.

Additionally, PepsiCo is transitioning traditional water pumps to solar-powered systems and installing high-efficiency irrigation systems, reducing water consumption and unlocking a more sustainable value chain. To further optimize farming practices, the company works hand-in-hand with farmers, providing them with real-time weather data through on-farm weather stations. This data enables farmers to make informed decisions and maximize resource efficiency.
