Punjab Reduces Waiting Period for Failed Driving Test Candidates

The Inspector General of Punjab has announced new measures to simplify the process of obtaining a driving license. Under the new policy, candidates who fail their driving tests will receive major relief.

According to details, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Ammara Athar has introduced a significant change for driving test candidates in Punjab. Those who fail their road test will now be able to retake it after just 15 days, instead of the previous 42-day waiting period.

This new policy previously applied only to candidates failing the sign test, is now extended to those who fail the road test as well. Ammara Athar stated that amendments to the Punjab Motor Vehicle Rules 1969 were made to expedite the process, allowing candidates who fail either test to retake them after just 15 days.

Ammara Athar also highlighted that videos of all candidates taking both the road and sign tests are recorded. This measure aims to ensure transparency and uphold merit throughout the licensing process.

Recently, the IG Punjab has empowered the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) to issue driving licenses. A notification from the IG Office revealed that eight PHP centers throughout the province have been authorized to handle license issuance. These licenses will be distributed through PHP Regional Offices located in Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and other selected regions. The regional PHP offices will oversee the entire licensing process.
