Action Ordered Against Public Transport Vehicles Without Mandatory QR Panic Buttons

Lahore Traffic Police has decided to ensure the installation of QR panic buttons in public transport, rickshaws, and online cabs as part of efforts to improve passenger safety and strengthen public transport security.

Authorities have ordered a crackdown against vehicles that fail to install the required panic button.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore said the action is being taken to bring public transport services in line with legal requirements and public safety standards.

He said special teams have been deployed in every traffic sector to monitor the installation process, while 12 separate teams have been assigned specifically for rickshaws.

The CTO added that four new licensing centres have also been established at the request of various rickshaw unions to facilitate drivers.

He said the department is promoting smart traffic management and modern security features to improve citizen safety. Several meetings have already been held with representatives of online taxi companies and rickshaw unions regarding the implementation of these measures.

The CTO warned that action will also be taken against online vehicles that fail to adopt the required safety and security features.

He said modern tracking systems will make the monitoring of passengers and drivers more effective. Technology-based initiatives, he added, will help improve traffic discipline, public safety, and crime prevention.
