Kotli Sattian to Get Chair Lift After Becoming New Tourist Destination

The district government has announced plans to open a new tourist destination in Kotli Sattian, a hill town in the newly established district of Murree, in April 2025, following a four-year delay. The tourist spot is expected to be operational by next year. Approval has been granted for installing a chairlift cable car system, which will traverse the rugged black mountains and dense forests.

An initial allocation of Rs1 million has been sanctioned to prepare a feasibility report for the chairlift cable car system, with the possibility of increased funding based on the bids received after the tender process. Officials have indicated that international companies may also participate in the feasibility study.

The opening of this hill resort in Kotli Sattian is anticipated to create employment opportunities for the local population of this underdeveloped tehsil. New hotels, motels, restaurants, and shops are also planned along the 123km tourism highway.

The chairlift cable car system will be installed in Chewra village of Kotli Sattian. These mountains, higher than those in Murree, offer views of Mangla Dam, Jhelum district, and the border areas of Azad Kashmir and Occupied Kashmir through a telescope.

The project was initially launched by the PTI-led Buzdar government, with significant support from then Advisor on Tourism and PHA Chairman, Asif Mahmood. However, the project stalled after the PTI government left office.

According to officials, much of the project’s infrastructure is already in place, with roads paved and trails established. As the roads are clear, families and youth have already begun camping in the area.

The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the District Murree administration, is preparing to open this new tourist destination next year. It is proposed that a fair will be organized for the occasion, with either the Prime Minister or the Punjab Chief Minister expected to inaugurate the project.
