September 6, which marks National Defence Day in Pakistan, is generating considerable buzz on social media regarding its status as a public holiday this year.
Falling on a Friday, it is traditionally a day to honor Pakistan’s military achievements, specifically the country’s defense efforts during the 1965 war against India.
As of now, according to notification from the Federal Cabinet Division regarding public holidays this year, September 6 will not officially be a public holiday in Pakistan.
Nonetheless, there is speculation that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif might declare it a public holiday, following a precedent set earlier this year when a holiday was announced on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer.
On the other hand, the country will observe a public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The precise date for this holiday will be confirmed today when the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets to observe the moon sighting for Rabi-ul-Awwal.
