The Ministry of Information has denied reports claiming that September 6 will be a public holiday, calling the circulating notification false. In a statement posted on its fact-checking account on X, the Ministry highlighted that spreading such misinformation is unethical and illegal.
The Ministry urged citizens to avoid sharing unverified information, stressing the importance of responsibility when discussing sensitive topics like public holidays. It also reminded the public to verify facts before believing or spreading them.
National Defence Day, celebrated on September 6, honors Pakistan’s military efforts during the 1965 war with India. While rumors of a holiday spread online, no official announcement has been made by the government. Earlier, the Federal Cabinet Division did not list September 6 as a public holiday for 2024.
In May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared May 28 a public holiday in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, marking Pakistan’s nuclear achievements. However, a public holiday is confirmed for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), which is expected to fall on September 17, depending on the lunar calendar.
