The 37th meeting of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Board of Studies in Nursing took place on Wednesday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore. During the meeting, the board approved the admission schedule for the upcoming four-year BSc Nursing program, as well as the examination calendar for both the two-year and four-year BSc Nursing programs for 2024. Heads of affiliated public and private nursing colleges were in attendance.
It was announced that admissions for the four-year BSc Nursing program across Punjab would begin this month. The entrance test and interviews are scheduled for the second week of November, with the first merit list expected in the third week of November. The final merit list will be published on December 31, and classes for the Fall Semester will commence on January 13, 2025. The Spring Semester is set to begin on July 1, 2025.
The examination calendar for 2024 was also approved, detailing that the annual exams for First Professional students will be held in the first week of March 2025, Second Professional exams in the first week of April 2025, Third Professional exams in the second week of May 2025, and Fourth Professional exams in the second week of June 2025. Additionally, evening session exams for the First Professional of the four-year BSc Nursing program are scheduled for the second week of October 2024.
The board also discussed steps to enhance nursing faculty development in the province. UHS will dedicate a section for nursing research papers in its official journal, Biomedica, and nursing faculty members will be included on the editorial board. Each nursing college will establish a Department of Nursing Education to manage faculty training programs, with biannual reports submitted to UHS. Plans were also announced for the creation of a separate nursing research journal shortly.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore further announced the formation of a dedicated UHS nursing faculty, with registration available through an online portal. To address the equivalence issue for graduates of the two-year Post-RN Nursing program, UHS will conduct a special examination in English, Pakistan Studies, and Islamic Studies. This exam will facilitate obtaining BSc equivalence from the Higher Education Commission (HEC). These subjects will also be incorporated into the Post-RN Nursing curriculum moving forward.
