The Rawalpindi Division has secured approval for 395 development schemes valued at Rs229.833 billion under the Annual Development Programme for 2024-25.
Presiding over the review meeting of the Divisional Development Working Party, Commissioner Aamir Khattak announced the approval of several key projects, including the widening of the 66km Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir Road at Lower Topa. This project, estimated to cost Rs133 million, is a response to the current road infrastructure’s inability to accommodate the high volume of traffic resulting from increased tourism and commercial activities. The expansion, to be executed by the Punjab Highway Department, is expected to be completed within six months.
The meeting, held at the Commissioner’s Office, included participation from Additional Commissioner Coordination Syed Nazarat Ali, Assistant Director Development, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning), SE Highways, Xen Building, National Highways, and other relevant government departments.
Commissioner Khattak outlined that the development program comprises 395 schemes, with a total investment of Rs228.823 billion. Of these, 274 are ongoing projects, while 121 are new initiatives designed to bring convenience and improved services to the public upon completion.
Emphasizing the importance of adherence to policy guidelines, Commissioner Khattak directed that all development projects across the division should comply with legal standards. He stressed the need for using quality materials and expediting the pace of work to ensure timely completion, noting that delays can cause significant hardships and inconvenience to the public.
I have been living in Rawalpindi for the last 40 years and I have never seen any project of Rawalpindi getting completed within given time frame. Take the example of Rawalpindi ring road and Islamabad express way. What about the previous projects of this city like flyover on kachehry chowk.
