UAE Announces Holiday on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced that Sunday, September 15, will be a public holiday to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This holiday applies to the federal government, in line with the cabinet’s official holiday schedule for the year.

In many Islamic countries, including those in the Gulf region, the Prophet’s birthday is traditionally observed on 12th Rabiul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.

Following this holiday, UAE residents can also anticipate a longer break in December for National Day, with December 2 and 3 falling on a Monday and Tuesday. This, combined with the weekend, will give residents a four-day holiday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s federal government has declared Tuesday, September 17, as a public holiday in observance of Eid Miladun Nabi. An official notification from the Cabinet Division states that the holiday will allow citizens across the country to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), leading to the closure of government, semi-government, and private offices, as well as banks, schools, and colleges.

On September 4, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, announced that the moon for the Islamic month of Rabiul Awwal had not been sighted in Pakistan, with the 1st of Rabiul Awwal beginning on September 6.
