The National Highway Authority (NHA) is working on enhancing road safety by introducing advanced measures aimed at reducing motorway accidents.
The plans were discussed during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, who stressed the need for improving emergency response services.
One of the key measures being considered is the launch of a helicopter rescue service. This service would provide quick medical assistance to those injured in motorway accidents, ensuring that help reaches the victims swiftly.
The service would complement the already existing 1122 emergency helpline. The minister also instructed the NHA to improve road safety by adopting short-term and long-term strategies.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of transparency in the use of government funds and called for the preparation of a five-year action plan to improve highways and motorways across the country.
To further streamline operations, the NHA was asked to introduce modern toll collection systems and draft a National Transport Policy. These steps are intended to enhance road safety and make travel more efficient for the public.
