latest domestic tournamentThe Champions One-Day Cup 2024, Pakistan’s latest domestic tournament, and PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi’s brainchild is set to begin tomorrow, September 12 in Faisalabad.
This 50-over competition features five teams: Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves (formerly now), with each squad stacked with top national and domestic talent.
In a last-minute decision, the PCB has renamed the “Wolves”, which was a a throwback to the Faisalabad Wolves from the National T20 Cup, to the “Markhors”. The team is now officially known as “UMT Markhors” due to their sponsorship by the University of Management and Technology (UMT).
As always, PCB’s last-minute changes have sparked frustration among fans and insiders, pointing to familiar issues of mismanagement within the board. This rebranding, done just days before the start of Champions Cup 2024, continues to fuel concerns about the board’s planning and organizational efficiency/
The competition will run through September 29, featuring 10 group stage matches followed by three playoff fixtures. The opening fixture between Mohammad Rizwan’s UMT Markhors and Shadab Khan’s Panthers is set to be played tomorrow at 3:00pm in Faisalabad.
