The Punjab government launched the ‘Lifesavers Initiative’ on Tuesday at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). This program is designed to equip university and college students with essential life-saving skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and bleeding control.
The initiative was inaugurated to coincide with World First Aid Week, aiming to inspire the youth of Punjab’s educational institutions to acquire vital life-saving skills. Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department, emphasized the program’s goal of creating a nation of lifesavers by ensuring that every household has a trained first aider.
LCWU Vice Chancellor Uzma Qureshi highlighted the importance of the program, urging both students and teachers to engage seriously with the training. She noted that thousands of students had already been trained as lifesavers by Rescue 1122 during an intensive three-day session. Qureshi expressed her gratitude to the Community Safety Wing for their commitment to the training efforts.
The Lifesavers Initiative will see Rescue 1122 extending life-saving skills training to students across universities and colleges throughout Punjab. Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services, Khwaja Salman Rafique, and Punjab Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, also addressed the launch event. They announced plans to expand the program to all educational institutions in the province, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness.
Earlier in the day, LCWU students who had completed the lifesaver training showcased their newly acquired skills in CPR and bleeding control through a live demonstration. These students pledged to promote the life-saving campaign among their peers.
