K-Electric Records Highest-Ever Industrial Power Consumption

K-Electric’s industrial electricity consumption reached a record high of 6.08 billion units in FY26, supported by Pakistan’s improving economic activity and GDP growth of 3.7 percent during the fiscal year.

The utility said the milestone highlights its role in powering Karachi’s industrial sector through reliable electricity supply. The previous record was set in FY22, when industrial consumption reached 5.84 billion units alongside GDP growth of more than 6 percent.

Industrial electricity consumption rose 20 percent year-on-year from 5.04 billion units in FY25 to 6.08 billion units in FY26, rebounding after several years of subdued demand caused by economic headwinds. The increase was supported by stronger economic activity and the government’s push to shift industries from captive power generation to the national grid.

K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Syed Muhammad Taha said the achievement reflected the combined efforts of the Government of Pakistan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and Karachi’s industrial community in creating a stable environment for investment and economic growth.

He said Karachi remains central to Pakistan’s industrial and commercial progress, adding that K-Electric has provided load-shedding-free electricity to industrial feeders since 2013 and remains committed to supplying reliable and sustainable power.

The utility said industries consuming between 501 kW and 5,000 kW, including cement, steel, and textile manufacturers, accounted for the highest electricity demand during the year. June 2026 recorded the highest monthly industrial consumption, followed by April.

K-Electric also energized 349 new industrial connections and approved load enhancements for 273 existing consumers, adding a combined 168 MW of demand to its network. The company noted that industrial consumers continue to maintain some of the highest bill recovery rates, allowing them to remain exempt from load shedding.
