Punjab to Launch New Vanity Number Plate Scheme Next Week

The Punjab Excise Department is preparing to introduce a new vanity number plate scheme next week, allowing vehicle owners to personalize their plates with custom names and numbers.

Director of Excise, Muhammad Asif, outlined the plan, offering three categories: gold, platinum, and corporate. The gold plates will cost Rs. 500,000, while the platinum plates will cost Rs. 50 million.

The corporate category, aimed at businesses, will be the most expensive, with a price tag of Rs. 100 million.

Asif stated that ownership of these vanity plates will be permanent. To ensure security, the department has developed measures to prevent counterfeiting and will maintain a database of all vanity plate holders.

In an unexpected development, reports surfaced that Mufti Qavi had been appointed the scheme’s ambassador. However, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari denied these claims, stating that no official appointment had been made.

She clarified that any unauthorized actions within the Excise Department would lead to disciplinary consequences. It is pertinent to mention that Chaudhry Asif, the former Director of Motors Lahore, has been reassigned to the Secretary Excise Office following backlash over his decision to present Mufti Qavi with an honorary number plate.

Rana Qamarul Hasan Sajjad has been named the new Director of Motors Lahore. The controversy erupted after Asif gifted Mufti Qavi a VIP number plate, which was seen as an inappropriate gesture.
