Sindh Govt Fast Tracks Electric Taxi Project

The Sindh government is fast-tracking its plan to introduce electric taxis in the province, with senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon recently holding discussions with officials from Chinese automaker GAC and Dewan Motors.

The meeting focused on the launch of an eco-friendly taxi service aimed at modernizing public transport and reducing pollution. The session was attended by key figures, including Sindh Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Dewan Yousuf Farooqui, and GAC representatives Zhu Song, Zhen Wen, and Zafar Hassan.

GAC’s General Manager Zhu Song provided insights into the benefits and technical aspects of electric vehicles, while different models for introducing the taxis were explored. Minister Memon assured the participants of the Sindh government’s complete backing, pledging to provide infrastructure like charging stations and simplify regulatory procedures.

He highlighted that electric taxis would offer modern and safe transportation and reduce carbon emissions, a priority for the province. In addition, Memon announced plans to introduce a “pink taxi” service, specifically for women passengers, ensuring their safety and convenience.

The electric taxi initiative is expected to create job opportunities and promote cleaner, more sustainable travel options in Sindh, with a swift rollout anticipated.
