Over 139,000 primary school teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced a province-wide strike on October 7, following the government’s decision to drop their upgrade plan.
The All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) has decided to lock schools in protest and hold demonstrations across the province. APTA’s leadership, during a recent meeting led by President Azizullah, declared that teachers would take to the streets and organize protests outside press clubs in various cities.
Azizullah emphasized that teachers have no choice but to escalate their actions after the government’s inaction on their demands. “We will lock schools and gather for a sit-in. The responsibility lies with the government,” he stated.
The strike will shut down more than 25,000 primary schools across the province, with a large number of teachers expected to converge in Peshawar for a major sit-in.
Teachers have a firm stance and have warned that the protest will continue until the government addresses their concerns. The strike represents a significant show of unity among educators, highlighting growing frustration over unmet promises. Further steps may be taken if their demands remain ignored.
