Sindh Makes Biometric Verification Mandatory for Vehicle Transfer

The Sindh government has introduced a new policy-making biometric verification mandatory for the registration and transfer of vehicles across the province. Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the decision, outlining the three-phase implementation process.

Starting July 1st, biometric verification is required for registering new vehicles, while the second phase, effective from November 1st, extends the requirement to those purchasing vehicles. By the third phase, buyers and sellers must complete biometric verification to complete any vehicle transfer.

Minister Memon stressed that the initiative will ensure transparency within the Excise Department, preventing fraud, and eliminating illegal transfers. “This is just the beginning,” he said, adding that the system upgrade will modernize the vehicle registration process in Sindh.

Citizens can visit NADRA e-facilitation centers or their district excise offices for the biometric process. The policy is part of broader reforms Memon has been spearheading since taking office, aimed at improving the efficiency of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department.

In August, the minister also directed that vehicle registrations be carried out at showrooms to make the process easier for citizens. Additionally, the issuance of premium number plates will soon enter its second phase, with proceeds going toward flood relief efforts.
