Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan Increases by 51% in August

The net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country stood at $214 million in August 2024, up 51 percent over the FDI of $142 million in the same month of FY24. 

In August 2024, foreign direct investment inflows stood at $296 million, up 46 percent over inflows of $204 million in August 2023. While outflows in August 2024 stood at $82 million, up 34 percent compared to outflows of $62 million in August 2023.

During 2MFY25, net FDI inflows rose 56 percent year-on-year (YoY) to $350 million compared to inflows of $225 million in 2MFY24. 

During 2MFY25, the highest FDI inflows of $175 million were received from China, followed by Hong Kong at $70 million, the United Kingdom at $44 million, the United States at $24 million, and France with inflows of $13 million during the period under review. 

The power sector was the major recipient of FDI in 2MFY25, attracting inflows of $210 million, followed by oil and gas exploration at $44 million, financial business at $39 million, and electronics at $23 million.
