Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has allocated Rs. 1.5 billion for the repair and restoration of Karachi’s roads, bridges, and underpasses severely damaged by the recent heavy rains.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday, the CM expressed concerns over the quality of infrastructure built after 2022, ordering a full inquiry into the matter. Shah stressed that those responsible for poor construction practices would be held accountable.
“We cannot accept substandard work in our city’s infrastructure. Action will be taken against those who fail to meet the required standards,” he stated.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab briefed the meeting, revealing that over 17.8 million square feet of roads across several districts had been damaged, including the South, East, West, and Korangi districts. Wahab highlighted that around 120 roads, bridges, and underpasses required immediate resurfacing and repair.
Alongside the allocated funds for urgent repairs, the Chief Minister also approved six new projects under the CLICK program, which will focus on the construction of flyovers and roads in different parts of the city. These initiatives are aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and avoiding further damage in future rainy seasons.
In another briefing, Shah was informed about the extensive damage caused by floods in the Hyderabad and Sukkur divisions. The Sindh government will conduct detailed surveys to assess the damage, with over 3,500 kilometers of roads affected in Hyderabad alone. Repair work across the province is set to begin soon.
