Pakistan Railways has announced a 10% reduction in train fares for all AC and economy classes, effective September 23. The fare cut applies to express and mail trains across the country, aiming to provide relief to passengers amidst rising travel costs.
The reduction in fares has been announced following a drop in fuel prices. The federal government decided to cut the price of petrol by Rs. 10 per liter from Rs. 259.10 to Rs. 249.10.
Furthermore, the price of Kerosene Oil was reduced by Rs. 11.15 per liter from Rs. 169.62 to Rs. 158.47 while the price of Light Diesel Oil dropped by Rs. 12.12 from Rs. 154.05 to Rs. 141.93.
Moreover, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) decreased from Rs. 262.75 to Rs. 249.69 after a reduction of Rs. 13.06 per liter.
In addition to this, Pakistan Railways has introduced a public-private partnership (PPP) model for operating certain passenger trains. Ten trains, including the Karachi Express, Awam Express, and Hazara Express, will be handed over to private operators under this scheme.
The railways department has invited interested parties to submit their bids for the operation of these trains. Technical evaluations of the bids will take place on the same day, according to officials.
