Bystanders Steal Rs. 0.7 Million From Robbery Victim in Karachi

In a tragic incident highlighting a decline in compassion, bystanders in Korangi looted Rs. 0.7 million from a bag belonging to a robbery victim who lay injured on the street on Wednesday.

Abdul Malik, a textile labor contractor, had just withdrawn Rs. 1 million from a bank when he and his young son, Kashif, were attacked by muggers outside a factory near Bilal Chowrangi. The robbers managed to steal Rs. 0.3 million before Malik was fatally shot while trying to defend himself and his son.

According to SSP Tauheedur Rehman, Malik, and Kashif were intercepted by three armed men on two motorcycles as they arrived at the factory. When they resisted the robbery, the attackers opened fire, hitting both Malik and Kashif.

They were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), but Malik succumbed to his injuries on the way, while Kashif was admitted for treatment.

From his hospital bed, Kashif provided a statement to the police. He described how he witnessed his father being shot and instinctively fired back at the muggers. “I hit one of them, but my pistol ran out of bullets, and then I was shot in the leg,” he recounted.

Police later apprehended one suspect, identified as Imtiaz Ahmed, during a roadblock near Singer Chowrangi. He was found with Rs. 300,000 in cash. Investigators have also noted that Rs. 700,000 was stolen by unidentified individuals who looted Malik’s bag after he was shot.

The police are currently looking into Imtiaz’s criminal history.
